Position Overview

The ACHS Quality Control and GMP Coordinator is responsible for implementing effective quality assurance for essential oils, botanicals, and other natural health products, including compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Oregon Tilth organic handling procedures. Must be available to work on-site in Portland, Oregon, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

The Work You'll Do in This Role

  • Receive and process botanicals, essential oils, botanicals and other raw materials in compliance with GMP and Oregon Tilth organic handling procedures; must have training in microscopic evaluation of botanicals.
  • Create, update, and maintain GMP procedures, training logs, cleaning logs, and quality control records, as applicable.

  • Provide effective, ongoing staff training and development program for compliance with GMP and Oregon Tilth procedures

  • Establish specifications for products and raw materials as needed, and provide laboratory expertise for specifications testing and validation, such as organoleptic testing, microscopic analysis, and independent outside testing.

  • Participate in production, including the packaging of bulk botanicals and essential oils in accordance with GMP and Oregon Tilth organic handling procedures.

  • Perform review of all product labels to assure accuracy, compliance with all GMP and Oregon Tilth regulatory requirements, and consistency with style guide.

  • Create certificates of analysis for products as needed for records and customers.

  • Perform daily personal practice checks, monitor temperature/humidity in cold storage rooms, and ensure facility cleaning is conducted and recorded.

  • Collect and maintain vendors’ organic certificates for all certified organic products.

  • Participate in other functions to support the Production department, including inventory management and reporting related to quality control and natural products manufacturing.

Skills and Experience You Bring to ACHS

  • Have formal training and experience with Good Manufacturing Practices and Oregon Tilth procedures in a natural products manufacturing setting; experience with organoleptic testing and microscopic analysis of botanicals and essential oils required.

  • Demonstrate a proven track record of leadership, excellent communication skills, and supervisory experience in a GMP manufacturing environment.

  • Be flexible and able to adapt to changing work priorities while effectively achieving established goals.

  • Be able to work independently, accurately, quickly, be goal-oriented, and take pride in their work.

  • Have excellent reporting skills, including the use of Microsoft Suite applications (Excel and Word) as well as Google Docs/Sheets, project management software, and online calendars.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibility. This position assures that all staff in the Shipping & Production Facility have training in GMP and comply with all requirements. 

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional production and small office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, email, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands

Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier weights with the proper equipment.
